On Wednesday, New Zealand have announced their squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2025, set to take place in India and Sri Lanka. The announcement was made in Auckland by former captain Emily Drumm, who lifted the trophy back in 2000.

White Ferns Name 15-player Squad For Women’s World Cup

Four players, Flora Devonshire, Polly Inglis, Bella James, and Bree Illing, have been picked for their very first World Cup. Meanwhile, skipper Sophie Devine will lead the team for one last time, as she has confirmed she’ll retire from one-day internationals after the tournament.

The squad includes well-known names like Suzie Bates, Lea Tahuhu, Amelia Kerr, Brooke Halliday, Eden Carson, and Maddy Green. The new faces bring fresh energy, with 22-year-old left-arm spinner Flora Devonshire earning her spot ahead of Fran Jonas, despite not yet making her ODI debut. Coach Ben Sawyer admitted it was a tough call to leave Jonas out but said Devonshire had impressed enough to make the cut.

New Zealand, who are current T20 World Champions, will now look to carry that success into the longer format. The bowling attack will see Amelia Kerr and Eden Carson leading the spin department, while Bree Illing will join Jess Kerr and Rosemary Mair in the pace attack. Sawyer said he was happy with the squad’s balance and believes this is the best-prepared the team has been during his time in charge, thanks to an extended training block since April.

The team announcement was made in a special event at Epsom Girls’ Grammar School, with members of the 2000 World Cup-winning team also taking part.

The White Ferns will leave for a training camp in the UAE on September 13, where they’ll play warm-up games against England. Their World Cup campaign begins with a big clash against Australia in Indore on October 1.
