Jasprit Bumrah picked up three quick wickets for India early on Day 2 of the third Test at Lord’s, shortly after overnight batter Joe Root completed his century. Forming forces at 271-7, Jamie Smith and Brydon Carse conjured a fighting 84-run partnership, unleashing quick half-centuries in the process. Mohammed Siraj broke England’s spirited resistance with two quick wickets, while Bumrah snared his fourth of the day and his fifth of the innings to claim figures of 5-74.
In response, India reached 145-3 from 43 overs by stumps, with KL Rahul reaching 53*. Chris Woakes, captain Ben Stokes and comeback man Jofra Archer all picked up a wicket each for the visitors.
Joe Root Celebrates Record Day Out At Lord’s
Joe Root completed his 37th century on Day 2 of the Lord’s Test. The innings also marked his 11th Test hundred against India to become the joint leading century maker in Tests against the Asian giants, equaling Steve Smith. Root also surpassed Rahul Dravid to become the fifth highest century maker in Tests overall. In terms of catching, Root once again went past Dravid to become Test cricket’s most successful fielder with 211 catches.
Scotland Out Of T20 WC 2026 After Defeat Vs Jersey In Region Final
The Scotland cricket team has been eliminated from securing a spot in the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup by losing to Jersey in match nine of the T20 World Cup Europe Region Final 2025 at The Hague. Batting first, Scotland reached 133-7 from 20 overs, with Matthew Cross top-scoring in the innings with 43*. For Jersey, Harrison Carlyon picked up three top-order wickets to claim figures of 3-26.
Later, Jersey pulled off a last-ball heist with a wicket to spare, after fighting out wicket-taking spells of Mark Watt, Safyaan Sharif and Chris Greaves. Opener Nick Greenwood top-scored for Jersey by compiling an elegant 49 at the top.
Shubman Gill Likely To Replace Rohit Sharma As ODI Captain
India’s Test captain Shubman Gill will likely replace Rohit Sharma as new national ODI skipper later this year. According to a Sports Tak report, the BCCI is planning for India’s future by considering a leadership transition for the team. The report further suggests that Gill might lead Team India in this year’s three-match ODI series against Australia to mark his first assignment as full time ODI captain.
Interestingly, Rohit Sharma has made it clear that he wants to continue playing ODI cricket at least until the 2027 World Cup in South Africa.
BCCI Unlikely To Attend ACC Meeting In Bangladesh
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will likely not be attending the upcoming Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting later this month in Bangladesh, citing security concerns. According to a report, the BCCI has already informed the ACC about its reluctance in travelling to Bangladesh, and has urged the Asian council to reschedule the meeting in another country. Notably, one of the primary agendas of the meeting was to determine the fate of the 2025 T20 Asia Cup.
