Jasprit Bumrah completed his five-wicket haul and Joe Root reached his century on Day 2 of the second Test. While KL Rahul composed a fighting fifty for the Indian team, lower-order batters Brydon Carse and Jamie Smith led the English charge after Bumrah’s early strikes.

Here, we take a look at the entire highlights of Day 2 of the third Test match, as it panned out at the iconic Lord’s in London on Friday, July 11.

Jamie, Carse Lift ENG After Jasprit Bumrah’s Early Strikes

Joe Root brought up his 37th Test century off the first ball of the day with a boundary. Shortly after his century, both he and his overnight partner Ben Stokes lost their defenses to Indian speed demon Jasprit Bumrah. The legendary Indian fast bowler also got Chris Woakes nicking towards wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel for a first-ball duck as England slipped from 260-4 to 271-7 in the space of just two overs.

Jamie Smith and Brydon Carse formed a gritty lower-order resistance for England by sharing a courageous 84-run partnership for the eighth wicket. Both cricketers unleashed quick half-centuries as the hosts raced past the 350-run mark.

Mohammed Siraj eventually broke through for India with two quick wickets, while Bumrah picked up his fifth to claim figures of 5-74, as England folded up for 387 in their first innings in 112.3 overs.

KL Rahul, Injured Rishabh Pant Navigate India To Safety

Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal clattered a couple of confident early boundaries before finding a nick off England’s comeback pacer Jofra Archer in just the second over of the innings. Karun Nair at number three composed 40 off 62 balls but an exceptional one-handed snare by Joe Root at first slip curtailed his stay at the crease.

Shubman Gill failed to sustain his prolific touch as the Indian skipper got bested by Chris Woakes. At 107-3, unbeaten opener KL Rahul formed an ideal resistance with an injured Rishabh Pant (19*) to take India to 145-3 from 43 overs by stumps. Rahul himself completed his half-century towards the closing stages of the day.
