Brian Bennett, the Zimbabwe opener, who retired hurt after an injury to his head in the first Test against South Africa, has now been ruled out of the entire match. He has been diagnosed with mild concussion, according to the update provided by Zimbabwe Cricket.

In place of Bennett, Prince Masvaure will play the remainder of the Test as a concussion substitute and will be available to bat in Zimbabwe's first innings. Brian Bennett, on the other hand, will miss the action after a good start with the bat.

He was batting on 19 when he was hurt by Kwena Maphaka's bouncer on the last ball of the sixth over. After the hit, the batter even passed the Concussion Test by the physio. However, he felt more discomfort after facing few balls in the next over and decided to leave the field.

"Zimbabwe opener Brian Bennett will play no further part in the ongoing Test match against South Africa at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo after being diagnosed with a mild concussion," a press release of Zimbabwe Cricket stated.

Brian Bennett's loss is a big blow to Zimbabwe, who are already behind the eight-ball in the Test. The 21-year-old Bennett scored a century against England in his last Test and has shown good consistency across formats for his country.

Thus, Zimbabwe fans would be hoping that he recovers quickly and gets fit for the second Test of the series, which will start on July 6 at the same ground, Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.

As far as the first Test is concerned, Zimbabwe need their senior batter, Sean Williams, to carry on the good work he has done after Bennett retired hurt. The Proteas scored 418 in the first innings courtesy of centuries from Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Corbin Bosch, and the home team would also need similar efforts from their batters.
