In the first quarterfinal of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, Baroda faced off against Bengal on December 11. The match gained attention with big names like Hardik Pandya and Mohammed Shami in action.

Hardik Pandya’s Underwhelming Performance

After Bengal won the toss and opted to bowl first, Hardik Pandya walked out to bat at No. 3 — a position unusual for him. Baroda’s innings started with a decent contribution from Abhimanyusingh Rajput, who scored 37 runs before getting dismissed.

Pandya, who was expected to dominate, couldn’t deliver this time. He scored just 10 runs off 11 balls before falling in the 15th over. Kanishk Seth bowled a length delivery wide outside off, and Pandya attempted a powerful cut. Unfortunately, the ball went straight to Writtick Chatterjee at point, who took a sharp catch. A visibly frustrated Pandya made the slow walk back to the pavilion.

Mohammed Shami Concedes 43 Runs In SMAT

On the other hand, Bengal’s pacer Mohammed Shami had a poor outing with the ball. He picked up 2 wickets, dismissing Shivalik Sharma for 24 and Atit Sheth for a duck in 4 overs, conceding 43 runs. In the SMAT 2024, Shami scalped 11 wickets in 9 innings with an economy rate of 7.86.

Baroda managed to post a total of 172/7 in their 20 overs. At the time of writing, Bengal were struggling at 31/3
