In a significant development, ahead of the much-anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Mumbai-based batter Sarfaraz Khan sustained an elbow injury during a practice session at the iconic WACA Stadium in Perth. The injury occurred as the Indian team is currently preparing for the upcoming five-Test series against Australia.
Sarfaraz Khan Faces Injury Concern
In a training clip posted by Fox Cricket, the 27-year-old batter was seen leaving the field in visible discomfort after being struck on his right elbow while batting in the nets. The video, which quickly went viral on social media, that shows Sarfaraz Khan in pain before heading off the field accompanied by the team physio. The severity of the injury is yet to be confirmed, but it has raised significant concerns.
Having made his Test debut in February 2024, Sarfaraz had an impressive start with back-to-back fifties but has been inconsistent since. His standout performance came with a brilliant 150 against New Zealand in Bengaluru, though he has managed just one half-century in his other seven innings.
It is important to note that, the Indian squad arrived in Australia in two separate batches earlier this week. The team is practising at the fast and bouncy WACA Stadium as a part of strategy and preparation to get familiar with the pace and bounce expected in the Test series.
Rohit Sharma's absence for the first Test already leaves a gap at the top of the order, and if Sarfaraz's injury is serious it could further complicate India's batting strategy.
The Indian team, under the guidance of head coach Gautam Gambhir, is leaving no stone unturned in their preparation after facing a recent series defeat against New Zealand.
