England pacer Mark Wood sent down rockets in his opening spell of the ongoing Ashes during Thursday's first morning of the Leeds Test. Wood, who did not feature in England's starting XI that lost at Edgbaston and Lord's, immediately proved to be the point of difference in the home sides' attack as he set the speedometer flying well into the 90s.

His first over of the morning saw the speed gun clock well in excess of 90 mph, with his third delivery being the fastest at 95 miles/hour (155.3 kmph).

In addition to his pace, the Durham seamer matched it with disciplined line-and-length to not allow the Australian batsmen, especially Usman Khawaja from rotating the strike.

The excessive pace and movement in the Leeds' pitch did the rest as Usman Khawaja was eventually castled in an attempt to drive Wood straight down the ground.

The ball nipped back sharply to cannon into Khawaja's leg stump, giving England a much-needed wicket.

At the time of writing, England had made two more in-road into the Australian batting after Chris Woakes induced an outside edge from Marnus Labuschagne from the corridor of uncertainty, while Broad got the getter of the 100th Test man Steve Smith to leave the Aussie reeling at 91/4 at Lunch.
