England all-rounder, Ben Stokes, recently opened up about his personal battle with hair loss and the subsequent transformation after undergoing a hair transplant procedure which enhanced his self-confidence.

Stokes shed light on hair loss, recovery and stigma attached to it

The Englishman, known for his outstanding skills on the cricket field, particularly his contributions to England's World Cup win in 2019, shared his personal journey with hair loss that began at age 27.

Stokes recalled the alarming moment he first noticed a bald patch during an overhead camera shot of his bowling run-up which made him realize the problem was serious.

“I saw the footage of myself from a bird’s-eye view, straight on top. I thought, ‘God, this is getting worse and worse.’ I’m lucky in that I’m quite tall, so I was standing above most people. But it just got to the point where it was getting too much,” commented Stokes.

Opting for a hair transplant, the England star mentioned how the successful procedure renewed his confidence.

“So, I went in, got it done, and seeing the results gave me so much more confidence, knowing that I didn’t have to worry about it as much as I did beforehand,” expressed Stokes, as cited by The Telegraph.

Stokes also pointed out the evolving perception of hair transplant procedures, which were once discreet affairs. He believes that the secrecy and stigma surrounding such procedures have waned. The southpaw also revealed how his confidence had boosted after receiving compliments for his hair.

“Men and hair, it’s a thing. The procedures used to be kept quiet. It was almost one of those things where you didn’t want people to know you had had it done. As people get older, they want to have a good head of hair. I know how I felt, from all the compliments I received. It gives you so much confidence. The stigma and the secretiveness have gone,” concluded the dynamic all-rounder.

Stokes’ revelation comes amid his surprising reversal from ODI retirement and ahead of the upcoming World Cup 2023, set to begin in India.
