England star all-rounder and Test captain, Ben Stokes, has written his name in the history books yet again. In the third Test match against India at the legendary Lord’s Cricket Ground, Stokes became the first cricketer in the world to win four Player of the Match (POTM) awards in Test matches played at this iconic venue.

The match, held at the "Home of Cricket," saw England defeat India by 22 runs, taking a 2-1 lead in the five-match series. Stokes played a key role in both batting and bowling, helping his team to a memorable win.

In the first innings, he scored 44 runs and took 2 wickets and in the second innings, he added 33 runs and took 3 more wickets. His all-round performance earned him the Player of the Match award, marking his fourth at Lord’s, a world-first.

Ben Stokes Breaks A Historic Record

Before Stokes, the record for most POTM awards at Lord’s in Test cricket was three, held jointly by:

  • Joe Root (England)
  • Stuart Broad (England)
  • Glenn McGrath (Australia)

Now, Ben Stokes stands alone at the top with four. Winning a Player of the Match award at Lord’s is a huge honor because it is one of the most historic and prestigious cricket grounds in the world. To be the best player there, not just once but four times, shows how consistent and outstanding Stokes has been over the years.

For England, only Joe Root (13 awards) and Ian Botham (12 awards) have more Player of the Match awards than Stokes.
