The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly set to delay the announcement of fresh central contracts for the men’s national team until October 2025. This has raised questions about the future of senior players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

As per BCCI policy, player contracts run from October to September. The last cycle officially ended in September 2024, and despite expectations of a new list being released in early 2025 there has been no official announcement so far.

When Will BCCI Announce The Central Contracts?

According to The Times of India, the delay stems from a combination of factors including India's inconsistent Test performances, particularly the home series loss to New Zealand and the disappointing tour of Australia. Other reason is uncertainty over Rohit Sharma’s future as a regular and potential captain.

BCCI officials are planning a detailed review with selectors and head coach Gautam Gambhir after the ongoing IPL 2025 season.

While India clinched the T20 World Cup in the 2023-24 cycle and remained competitive across formats, sources close to the board indicate that the future roles of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja are still under consideration.

“If one looks at the performances in the year 2023-24, India have won the T20 World Cup besides being consistent in the other formats. In that case, the likes of Rohit, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja don’t deserve being pushed down (in the gradation system of the contracts).

It is also important to mention that there are also talks of reducing the size of the support staff, aligning with a broader plan to restructure the team’s ecosystem for the coming international cycle.
