Mukesh Kumar fined [Source: @Kavya_Maran_SRH/X.com]
Delhi Capitals fast bowler Mukesh Kumar has been fined 10% of his match fee by the BCCI after a match against the Mumbai Indians on Wednesday. He also received a demerit point for breaking the rules during the game.
Mukesh Kumar Fined for Breaking IPL Rules
The fine was given because Mukesh damaged some cricket equipment or parts of the ground, something that goes against the IPL's Code of Conduct (specifically under Level 1, Article 2.2).
This rule is about not abusing cricket gear or anything on the field. Mukesh accepted the punishment, and since it’s a Level 1 offence, the match referee's decision is final.
“Mukesh Kumar admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 (Abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a Match) and accepted the Match Referee's sanction,” the IPL said in a release.
Frustration in Final Over Leads to Costly Mistake
Mukesh was visibly frustrated after a tough final over in which he gave away several boundaries, two sixes and two fours to Mumbai batter Naman Dhir. This helped Mumbai reach a strong total of 180 runs for 5 wickets, giving their bowlers plenty to defend.
Notably, Mumbai’s innings was led by Suryakumar Yadav, who scored a quick 73 runs off just 43 balls.
In the match, Mukesh did manage to take two wickets and ended with bowling figures of 2 for 48, but that last over proved costly for DC.
Delhi, in response, collapsed badly. Despite a decent effort from Sameer Rizvi (39) and Ashutosh Sharma (18), the rest of the batting fell apart, and Delhi were bowled out for just 121 runs.
This loss by 59 runs not only ended their match but also ended their hopes for the playoffs. Interestingly, Delhi had started the IPL 2025 season strong with four straight wins, but now they’ve made history for the wrong reason, becoming the first team ever to miss the playoffs after such a strong start.
Mumbai Indians, with this win, took the last available playoff spot.
