BCCI Releases Avesh Khan From India's Test Squad To Play Ranji Trophy

Pacer Avesh Khan, who got picked in India's Test squad for the first two encounters against England, has now been released by the Board of Control for Cricket In India (BCCI) from national duties, after the first match at Hyderabad for underway this morning.

Named as Mohammed Shami's replacement in South Africa tour as well, Khan will now feature for Madhya Pradesh in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024 season and will take the field against Puducherry on January 26 in the Elite Group D contest. The BCCI took to social media platform 'X' to announce the release of Khan. 

The 27-year-old is yet to make his Test debut, but has featured in eight ODIs, and 20 T20Is for India, claiming 28 wickets combined.

Avesh joined the Indian Test squad after fast bowler Prasidh Krishna failed to impress team management in South Africa and unfortunately picked up a quad injury prior to the England series during a Ranji Trophy 2024 match.

Madhya Pradesh have started the Ranji Trophy season with one and two draws, and are seated third in the standings with 10 points. 

Meanwhile, former India captain Virat Kohli's replacement for the first two Tests, Rajat Patidar has joined the Indian squad in Hyderabad as well, after showing stellar performance for India A against England Lions recently.
