BCCI Punishes LSG Captain Rishabh Pant With Hefty Fine After Defeat vs MI

In a significant development, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper Rishabh Pant has been handed a hefty fine of Rs 24 lakh by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for maintaining slow over-rate offence during IPL 2025 match against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Sunday, April 27 at the Wankhede Stadium.

Why Did BCCI Punish Rishabh Pant?

This marked Rishabh Pant’s second over-rate breach of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over-rate offences. The first offence occurred earlier this month in Lucknow, also against MI, for which he was fined Rs 12 lakh.

"As this was his team’s second offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Pant was fined INR 24 lakhs," the IPL said in a release.

It is important to note that in addition to Pant, the rest of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, have also been penalised. Each will be fined either Rs 6 lakh or 25 percent of their match fees, whichever is lower.

"The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, will be fined either INR six lakhs or 25 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser."

Rishabh Pant's LSG Faces Another Fine

The disciplinary action comes after LSG’s disappointing 54-run loss to Mumbai Indians, continuing their struggle to maintain the required over-rate. With this, LSG becomes only the second team in IPL 2025 to be fined twice for over-rate violations, joining Rajasthan Royals.

Earlier in March, RR’s Riyan Parag was fined Rs 12 lakh for the first slow-over rate offence against CSK, followed by captain Sanju Samson being fined Rs 25 lakh for a repeat offence against GT at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

It is important to mention that after this defeat LSG is placed at the 6th position on the points table with 10 points in 10 matches.
