In a revolutionary move taken by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) ahead of the Indian Premier League(IPL), a new rule was introduced known as the 'Impact Rule' in 2023. This change was made to inject more enjoyment and entertainment into the cash-rich league.

The new impact has oscillated things up in IPL and has received mixed reviews from cricket followers and former cricketers. With the introduction of this rule now teams have 12 players in their line-up, providing more stability and flexibility to the teams.

After the impact rule was implemented, the teams changed their mindset as they are playing more aggressive and fearless cricket.

In the podcast show 'Club Prairie Fire', there was a discussion that took place between former Australian wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist and Rohit Sharma regarding the impact rule.

BCCI Open To Talk About Impact Player Rule

Indian cricket team captain, Rohit Sharma is not a fan of the new rule and believes that some changes should be made to protect the game and provide equal opportunities to the players. The impact rule has been facing continuous criticism for some time now, and BBCI is now open to reviewing it and making necessary changes.

In the context of the same IPL council chairman Arun Dhumal expressed himself and said that was open to discussion and believes that this rule is not mandatory.

He concluded that there could be changes made to this rule and if not it can be removed in the future.

"Now that such an observation has been made, we will definitely look into it. We will discuss with all parties involved and then take a call. There are various pros and cons to any rule that is in place. We are open to any discussion once the season gets over... nothing is cast in stone about its implementation," IPL governing council chairman Arun Dhumal told The Telegraph.

It's important to state that in the Big Bash League (BBL) similar impact rule was implemented named the 'X' factor but later on removed it due to its unpopularity and negative impact.
