In what could be a historic moment for the Indian cricket, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has formally approved a five-team Women's IPL from 2023.

According to recent reports, BCCI are looking to sell the media rights before the sale of teams. The teams could either be given to the current male franchise owners or new bids could be called in for new cities.

The format in talks suggests 20 matches in the group stage with each team playing 8, while the top team will progress to the final directly with second and third placed team battling it out in the eliminator.

A total of five overseas players with one from associate and other four from full members could be a part of playing XI.

The event is expected to take place in March after the conclusion of Women's World Cup 2023 that runs from 9th to 26th February in South Africa.
