England could be set for a major injury scare ahead of their T20 World Cup 2022 opener against Afghanistan on the 22nd of October.

According to reports, Reece Topley has now picked up an ankle injury during a fielding drill before the warm-up game against Pakistan.

It remains to be seen whether Topley can recover in time for the Afghanistan clash. The 28-year-old has been a key player for England in T20Is this year and his absence will come as a major blow for the Three Lions.

Topley has picked up 17 wickets in T20Is this year and he is England's top wicket-taker in the shortest format of the game in 2022. He has had his fair share of injury problems in recent years and will hope to get over the ankle issue in the coming days.

In case Topley fails to recover in time, England will have the likes of Liam Dawson, Richard Gleeson and Tymal Mills at their disposal. The trio have been drafted into the reserves.

England will head into the tournament as one of the teams capable of going all the way and they will want their key players fit and firing in the marquee event.

The Three Lions are going through a bit of transition phase with a new coach and captain at the helm.
