In a significant development, the BCCI held its 19th apex council meeting on 7th July, Friday. The board came up with several major decisions, which it revealed on its official social media handle on Saturday.
Here are the key decisions taken in BCCI apex council meeting
- The BCCI will soon introduce an amended policy regarding ex-cricketers' participation in overseas T20 leagues. Earlier, the erstwhile cricketers were allowed to feature in overseas leagues following their BCCI contract termination. However, the board is expected to come up with a one-year cooling-off period only after which the retired players can take part in foreign leagues.
- In another notable decision, the board has made up its mind to send both men's and women's contingent to participate in the upcoming Asian Games in Hangzhou. However, considering the Asian Games schedule will collide with the men's World Cup, the board will send a second-string side for the marquee event.
- The impact player substitute rule will continue to exist in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. However, this time, the teams will have to name four impact substitutes before the toss. Also, unlike the previous season, where an impact player could be used only before the 14th over, the teams can now take the call at any stage of the game.
- Two bouncers will be allowed per over in the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy in order to ensure the balance between bat and ball.
- The governing body of Indian cricket will start working on the upgradation of the venues across the country, giving first-hand priority to those set to host World Cup fixtures.
Meanwhile, the Indian team is in the Caribbean to play two Tests, three ODIs and five T20Is against hosts West Indies in a one-month-long tour starting on July 12.
