With a disastrous ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is seeking clarity from veterans Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal over their cricketing future.

Shakib will miss the upcoming two-Test series against New Zealand starting November 28, owing to an injury that has ruled the star player out of the World Cup already. Tamim's future remains in limbo after the whole pre-World Cup fiasco regarding his place in the side.

The opener has already informed the board about not being available for New Zealand Tests. As quoted by Daily Star, an unnamed BCB official stated that the board needs clarity from both players moving forward across formats.

Here's what BCB official said

"Shakib is unavailable [for the NZ series] due to injury. He has a plan and we need to be clear about it in terms of his leadership roles and what formats they [Shakib and Tamim] want to go ahead with,"

With both Shakib and Tamim unavailable, Litton Das becomes the next best candidate, however, BCB has expressed disappointment over the batter's leadership skills.

"We aren't negative about Liton but for some reason he has lost a bit of focus on everything,"

Other potential Bangladesh captain include players like Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mehidy Miraz  for the home series against NZ. The BCB will decided upon their next Test skipper in a board meeting soon.

The first Test will be played at Sylhet, and the second will be held in Dhaka.
