'I Would Like To Lead..'- Jos Buttler Reveals Captaincy Ambitions Amidst WC Debacle

England's white-ball captain Jos Buttler is eager to continue his role as a leader despite the defending champions' horrid performance in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023

Buttler will likely convey his desire to England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) men's director Robert Key about the same sometime this week.

Key will meet Buttler and white-ball coach Matthew Mott in Kolkata, where three One-Day Internationals and five T20Is against West Indies will be selected.

As quoted by ESPNcricinfo, the Rajasthan Royals player reasserted his intentions to stay as England's ODI and T20 skipper for next month's Caribbean tour.

Here's what Buttler said

"I'd like to [lead in the Caribbean]. I know Rob Key arrives in India today. We can have some good conversations with him and the coach and everyone, and make a plan for that tour. But yeah, I'd like to."

The Buttler-led side managed to win their second World Cup game last evening when they crushed the Netherlands by 160 runs and kept their hopes of qualification for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 alive.

ECB is expected to make several changes in England's ODI side, with chances for players like Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Will Jacks and Rehan Ahmed being handed out, where experienced players could be rested.

The T20I squad, however, will be a full-strength side, given the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 co-hosted by West Indies and USA. Meanwhile, England will play their final World Cup game against Pakistan on Saturday in Kolkata.
