In a significant development, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has denied No Objection Certificate (NOC) to premier white-ball batter Afif Hossain for the ongoing Global T20 Canada 2024.

Hailed for his scintillating stroke play, Afif had applied for the NOC to feature in the famed franchise league.

However, Bangladesh Cricket's apex body has denied him the NOC, preventing him from participating in the tournament.

Regarding the matter, a BCB official stated that Afif can't play the Global T20 as he will lead the Bangladesh High-Performance Unit's white-ball squad in a Tri-series involving Pakistan Shaheens and Northern Territory Strike in Australia.

"Yes, he (Afif) had requested for a NOC to take part in the Global T20 but we could not give that to him as he is the captain of the HP Unit’s one-day squad while also included in the T20 squad for the following tournament. If he had applied earlier for the NOC to play GT20 in that case we could have made different plans," the official was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh players in the Global T20 include legendary allrounder Shakib Al Hasan and ace left-arm seamer Shoriful Islam.

Both players represent the Bangla Tigers Mississauga and will soon join the national setup for the upcoming Test series against Pakistan.
