In a significant setback for Bangladesh, stylish top-order batter Najmul Hossain Shanto has been ruled out of the Asia Cup 2023 due to injury. As reported by ESPN Cricinfo, the left-handed batter sustained a hamstring tear during Bangladesh's second group-stage fixture against Afghanistan and is unable to participate further in the tournament.

Shanto's absence will create a massive void in the Tigers' camp, as he showcased prolific form in the two Asia Cup outings, amassing 193 runs, including a ton and a fifty, at a magnificent average of 96.50 and a strike rate of 85.02.

After having a topsy-turvy start to his ODI career, the southpaw recently established himself as a vital cog in Bangladesh's ODI setup through some scintillating performances.

Notably, Shanto will be the second key player from Bangladesh to miss out on the Asia Cup campaign, with Litton Das being the first to be ruled out of the initial games due to fever. Therefore, the Tigers' batting unit will thoroughly be tested in the Super 4, as they have qualified for the stage in the marquee event.

Bangladesh got off to a disastrous start to the Asia Cup 2023, losing to Sri Lanka by five wickets in the second match. However, they made a remarkable comeback, thrashing Afghanistan by a thumping 89-run margin.
