BAN v SL | Finger injury rules out Nayeem Hasan from the 2nd Test

Bangladesh off-spinner Nayeem Hasan has been ruled out of the second Test against Sri Lanka and is unlikely to feature in the forthcoming tour of the West Indies, BCB chief physician Debashish Chowdhary confirmed on Friday.

Hasan sustained a finger injury during the first Test against Sri Lanka earlier this week, and it will take around 3-4 weeks for the young spinner to recover completely.

The second Test between the home side and Sri Lanka will take place in Dhaka between May 23 and 27.

Debashish Chowdhury, the Bangladesh cricket team's chief physician, confirmed the news that Nayeem will miss the next game due to injury.

"Nayeem is certainly ruled out from the second Test against Sri Lanka as he fractured his finger. He will need at least three to four weeks to recover, and considering that it looks he is unlikely to make in the West Indies Test squad," said Chowdhury, as quoted by CricBuzz.

Bangladesh's next assignment will be a tour to the Caribbean islands in the month of July, where the Asian 'Tigers' will play a couple of ICC World Test Championship Tests and six white-ball internationals (3 ODIs + 3 T20Is).

While Nayeem is unlikely to make it to the West Indies for the Test series, Chowdhury is hopeful that Mehidy Hasan will be available.

Hasan was ruled out of the ongoing Test series against the Lankan Lions following a fracture in his finger he sustained during the last edition of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL).

"We have opened his plaster three to four days back, and now he is having his physiotherapy, and we are hoping and confident that he will be available during the West Indies tour," he said.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh will be looking for a historic series win over Sri Lanka when they square off against the former heavyweights in the decider next week.
