  • Ipl 2022 Virat Kohlis Run Chase Special Against Gt Enriches His Tally With More Records

IPL 2022 | Virat Kohli’s run-chase special against GT enriches his tally with more records

RCB veteran Virat Kohli returned to form and was at his imperial best against Gujarat Titans at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium on May 19. The batting maverick struck his second half-century of the season, stroking his way to 73 runs from just 54 balls.

Kohli was also adjudged as the 'Player of the Match' for his efforts as RCB continues to remain a playoff contender until Delhi Capitals' impending result against wooden-spooners Mumbai Indians.

Remarkably, the legendary cricketer also snared a couple of batting records during his 73-run knock against the table-toppers.

Virat Kohli celebrates return to form with unique IPL records

During the course of his innings, Virat Kohli became the first ever batsman in the history of IPL to stockpile over 3,000 runs while chasing. Often known as the 'Chase Master', the RCB legend is 171 runs clear of second-placed David Warner (2,839 runs).

Apart from his chasing record, Kohli also scaled the 7,000-run mark for the RCB. He has been a part of the Bangalore-based franchise since the tournament's inception in 2008.

The batting maestro remains the only cricketer in the world to score 7,000 runs for a single team in T20 cricket. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) battle-hardened campaigner Suresh Raina is next on the elite list with 5,529 runs.

Virat Kohli in IPL 2022 so far

Prior to the IPL 2022 season, Virat Kohli relinquished his captaincy to hand over the reins to South African veteran Faf du Plessis. Apparently, lack of captaincy burden did not help his cause either, as batting wise, Kohli is suffering from one of his worst IPL seasons.

After 14 league games, the 33-year-old has only compiled 309 runs with two fifties at an average of 23.77.
