Sri Lanka announces provisional squad for series against Australia

In the latest announcement, Sri Lanka Cricket have named their provisional squad for their all-format series against Australia starting June 7. Both the teams are slated to play 3 T20Is, 5 ODIs and 2 Test matches in this series. 

The ODIs will form a part of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Super League, and Test matches will be part of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23. 

The Sri Lankan team is at 7th, while Australia mark their presence in the 4th position of the Super League table. The teams will have to be in the top eight positions to qualify for the 2023 World Cup. 

On the other hand, Australia are the number one team in the WTC 2021-23 table, while Sri Lanka are at the fifth position. 

The series will start with T20I matches, and then ODI and Test matches will be played.

A 24-member provisional squad has been announced for Test matches, and 26 members are present in the provisional ODI and T20I squads. Dimuth Karunaratne will lead the Test team, and Dasun Shanaka will be the captain of the white-ball formats. The Australian team last toured Sri Lanka in 2016 and lost the series 0-3. They'll be looking to come up with improved performance this year.
