New Zealand set to play 3 extra T20s in their tour to Pakistan next year

As we know, New Zealand cancelled their Pakistan tour last year, citing a ‘specific and credible’ security threat. This sudden abandonment of the tour just a few hours before its commencement affected the Pakistan Cricket Board badly in two ways.

Firstly, the PCB suffered a significant financial loss after the cancellation of the series. Secondly, it jolted PCB’s attempts to create the image of Pakistan as a safe venue on the global circuit.

Further, the relationship between the two boards deteriorated as PCB demanded a compensatory amount from New Zealand Cricket (NZC).

For information, NZC has agreed to pay PCB an undisclosed amount as compensation for their cancellation of the tour. Added to that, the board has even given its consent to play three additional T20 international matches during the Blackcaps’ tour to Pakistan next year.

To note, New Zealand are scheduled to tour Pakistan in December 2022/January 2023. Earlier, the tour consisted of two tests and three ODI games, but as per this latest development, three T20Is have also been included in the tour.

After New Zealand pulled out of the tour in 2021, there were constant tensions going on between the countries. In fact, the Pakistani fans as well as the PCB chief Rameez Raja openly termed Pakistan’s victory against the Kiwis in their T20 world cup encounter as an act of revenge.

However, it’s commendable the way the New Zealand cricket board has dealt with this situation, and now it’s certainly expected that both these nations are going to share a great bond in the near future.
