In the latest development, Babar Azam, the star batter, will play in Pakistan’s domestic first-class tournament, Quaid-e-Azam, before the Test series commences against South Africa. The first Test will take place on Sunday, October 12, and before that, Babar will represent the Lahore Whites.

A few days back, Mohammad Rizwan and other Test-bound players were advised to go back to the domestic circuit before the South Africa Tests, and according to reports in Pakistan media, Babar will play in the Quaid-e-Azam match to prepare for the upcoming red-ball challenge.

Why Quaid-e-Azam match holds importance for Babar

Recently, Babar was snubbed from the Pakistan Asia Cup squad, but was brought back in the Test team for the South Africa series. The series holds utmost importance as another poor performance and the selectors could show the exit door to him.

Hence, the Quaid-e-Azam match for Lahore Whites will be crucial for Babar as it will allow him a chance to get used to red-ball cricket. He last played a Test match at the start of 2025, and since then, he has only played white-ball cricket for Pakistan.

To get into the groove for Test cricket, the upcoming game on October 6 provides a perfect opportunity for Babar to get some runs under his belt.

Other notable players who will play in Quaid-e-Azam

Not only Babar, but also other key Test-bound players have been told to take part in the red-ball tournament before the Test series starts. As per media reports in Pakistan, Mohammad Rizwan, Salman Ali Agha, Hasan Ali, and Sajid Khan will represent their respective sides in the Quaid-e-Azam.

The standards of the Pakistan team in Test cricket have dipped in recent years, and they even struggle to beat teams at home. Hence, to rectify the past mistakes and get used to the conditions before the clash vs South Africa, the team management has urged Test players to play in the domestic tournament.
