The injury list for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 just grows with each passing day. Five-time champions Australia are set to miss out on the services of spinner Ashton Agar for the marquee event.

As per FoxSports, Agar has been ruled out of the World Cup in India starting next month after failing to recover from a calf injury. The spinner also missed Australia's ODI trip to India after being ruled out of the T20I in South Africa against the hosts.

However, the 29-year-old has been named in Australia's 15-member squad for the showpiece event and was a part of the spinning duo alongside Adam Zampa.

Agar has played 22 ODIs for Australia, claiming 21 wickets, of which six have come in Indian conditions in as many matches.

Cricket Australia is expected to finalise their final 15 for the World Cup today, which could see youngster Tanveer Sangha make his way into the squad. Other players expected to find their name in the revised Australian contingent are batter Marnus Labuschagne and Matthew Short.

The selectors will also ponder over carrying Travis Head during the initial part of the World Cup, over sending him over to recover. Head suffered an unfortunate injury during the fourth ODI against South Africa, fracturing his hand.

The Pat Cummins-led side will take on hosts India in their first match of the 10-nation tournament on October 8 at Chennai.

Cummins and Co. will confidently head into the encounter, having beaten India in the third and final ODI at Rajkot and denying the hosts a series whitewash.
