Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood has expressed his confidence in defeating the defending champions, India, in the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy.

In an effort to display his keenness to do so, he called the Men In Blue "India B" as he recalled how they were bowled out for 36 at Adelaide Test.

Hazlewood also stated that this doesn't mean the Aussies would be taking them lightly, as India has the ability to be stronger than the best team.

He also said that numerous players in the Aussie squad have not had the taste to defeat India in a Test series, and they all would be keen to do so, particularly at home.

Josh Hazlewood On The Upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy

"There are quite a few players who have never beaten India in a Test series. It's quite astounding to say that. That's one we need to tick off, definitely, in particular at home - we should pretty much win every series here at home."

That last series we obviously bowled them out for 36 in Adelaide and we thought here we go, [we are] back at home [and] confident on these grounds. People say we played India B in that last Test, but they can sometimes be stronger than the best team. They've got unbelievable depth in all formats and we are starting to see that now," he added.

It must be noted that while quite a few Indian players sustained injuries during this time, the Ajinkya Rahane-led Team India did indeed bounce back in style, sealing the series with their momentous Gabba victory.

Interestingly, Hazlewood took 13 and 17 wickets in his four Tests in the 2018-19 and 2020-21 BGT series against India, both of which Australia lost by a 2-1 margin.

The highly anticipated Border Gavaskar Trophy will begin from November 2024.
