Pakistan star batter, Babar Azam, has been one of the most celebrated cricketers in his country. However, his recent dip in form has drawn criticism from fans. The latest instance came during the 1st ODI of the Tri-Nation series between Pakistan and New Zealand at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, on February 8.

The incident occurred in the 10th over of Pakistan’s innings when Babar was dismissed for just 10 runs off 23 balls. Glenn Phillips took a stunning catch at forward square leg to send the former Pakistan captain back to the pavilion. This early exit only added to his struggles in recent matches.

Following his dismissal, Pakistan fans in the stadium started chanting “Zimbabar,” a nickname used to mock him, implying that he only performs well against weaker teams like Zimbabwe. A video of the incident quickly went viral on social media platform X, with fans heavily criticising the former Pakistan captain.

New Zealand Stun Pakistan With 78-Run Victory

Talking about the match, New Zealand won the toss and opted to bat first. After some early hiccups, Kane Williamson (58) and Daryl Mitchell (81) set the stage for Glenn Phillips, who played a blistering knock. His unbeaten 106 powered New Zealand to a strong total of 330.

Shaheen Afridi was the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan, taking 3 wickets for 88 runs in his 10 overs.

Chasing 331, Fakhar Zaman started well with a solid 84 off 69 balls, forming key partnerships with Babar Azam and Kamran Ghulam. However, once Glenn Phillips dismissed Fakhar, Pakistan lost momentum.

New Zealand’s spinners—Phillips, Santner, and Bracewell—controlled the middle overs, taking six wickets for just 100 runs. Despite playing all 50 overs, Pakistan managed only 252/9, with Haris Rauf unable to bat due to injury.

Mitchell Santner (3/41) and Matt Henry (3/55) played a crucial role in securing the 78-run win for New Zealand.
