Australia will be one of the strongest contenderds for the upcoming edition of the Champions Trophy 2025. However, ahead of the tournament, they suffered some major setbacks because of injuries to some key players, and Marcus Stoinis retired from ODI cricket.

Cricket Australia have announced the squad for the upcoming two-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. Here is a look at the major hints they dropped about the replacements of their unavailable players for the tournament.

1. Jake Fraser-McGurk For Mitchell Marsh

Why Is Jake-Fraser McGurk A Perfect Replacement for Mitchell Marsh?

The young Australian batter, Jake Fraser-McGurk, is known for his aggressive batting and putting the opposition on the back foot in the initial stages. Mitchell Marsh had much of the same role in the team. It will be interesting to see who Australia prefer as their opener between Fraser-McGurk and Matt Short, but this replacement looks great for the team.

2. Sean Abbott For Pat Cummins

Why Is Sean Abbott A Perfect Replacement for Pat Cummins?

Sean Abbott is a right-arm medium pacer who is known for bowling consistent lines and lengths and also for his ability to be handy with the bat lower down the order. Thus, Abbott seems like a perfect replacement for Pat Cummins. Cummins is also a bowler who is persistent with his line and length and can also be very effective as a batter in the lower order.

3. Ben Dwarshuis For Josh Hazlewood

Why Is Ben Dwarshuis A Perfect Replacement for Josh Hazlewood?

One of Josh Hazlewood's biggest USPs is his ability to bowl economical spells and trouble the batters with his persistent line and length. Ben Dwarshuis is a similar sort of bowler and could take up the role of Hazlewood in the team. Besides, Dwarshuis can also swing his bat around and serve some quick runs as a tail-ender.

Conclusion

Besides these three replacements, Australia will also be looking for a replacement for Marcus Stoinis. Looking at the squad for the Sri Lanka series it seems they are banking on Spencer Johnson or Tanveer Sangha to replace stoinis. Probably, they will give a go to both the players in the two upcoming ODIs and then select one of them for the tournament.
