Shikhar Dhawan reveals what sparked clash with Kohli
Known for outstanding cricketing flair, Shikhar Dhawan has always entertained fans with his jolly flair. His bond with his childhood cricket mate, Virat Kohli, has always captivated fans as the duo often shared fun-filled moments on the field. But there was an instance when the duo engaged in a serious on-field fight.
During a football warm-up, a playful shoulder tackle between the stars escalated into a brief argument. In a recent podcast with Raj Shamani, Shikhar Dhawan reflected on that moment.
“Virat and I fought once. We shoulder-tackled each other once while playing football during a warm-up session. For a second, we got angry. Slowly, we stopped playing football in warm-ups because people would fight. It happens, there are so many athletes, aggressive, each one is big in his own right,” he said.
Not once, Dhawan and Kohli face off twice
Since the early days of their careers, Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli have played together. Crossing the boundary of the domestic stage, the duo represented the nation to the highest level. Shikhar Dhawan recently recalled getting dismissed because of Kohli , and admitted it left him fuming.
“I was in South Africa, Virat ran me out. At that time, I got very angry… My (IPL) auction, too, hadn’t gone well. I wasn’t able to accept that as well. So, that was there, and then this (run out) happened. I abused a lot… he (Kohli) was in the middle, I was venting out in the dressing room - not at him, but like how batsmen usually would. But we have our understanding because we know it isn’t intentional. This happens in cricket,” he said.
Team India’s very own ‘Gabbar’ has hung up his boots from international cricket, and Kohli is set to play the ODIs only. Since they made their debut for India, the side has received a huge boost in the top order as the duo delivered some unforgettable cricket memories.
