The Asia Cup 2025 has been caught in a whirlwind of “will it, won’t it” over the last few weeks. But finally, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Asia Cup 2025 Set For September in UAE

As per the latest update from Gaurav Gupta, Senior Assistant Editor at The Times of India, the Asia Cup 2025 is likely to be staged in the UAE, specifically, Dubai and Abu Dhabi from September 8 to September 28.

The tournament will feature 8 teams:

  • Full members: India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh
  • ACC Premier Cup qualifiers: UAE, Oman, Hong Kong

The above Asia Cup update was confirmed in a tweet by Gaurav Gupta.

The heat will be on, both literally and metaphorically as Asia’s top teams fight it out in the desert.

India vs Pakistan Remains A Million-Dollar Question

Now, here comes the elephant in the room. Will India actually face Pakistan? Even if the tournament gets the nod, the cricketing world is on edge about whether BCCI will let the men in blue lock horns with their arch-rivals.

In the backdrop of the Pahalgam terror attacks and India’s Operation Sindoor, there is been a lot of public pressure not to engage in cricketing ties with Pakistan.

The outrage even hit the World Championship of Legends recently, where the India Champions vs Pakistan Champions match had to be cancelled after widespread backlash. Big names like Shikhar Dhawan, Harbhajan Singh, Suresh Raina and Irfan Pathan pulled out last minute.

So if India and Pakistan aren’t in the same group, that’s one thing. But if both qualify for the Super 4s or the final, well, there’s no running from the face-off.

Asia Cup AGM In Dhaka

The Asia Cup AGM in Dhaka on Thursday will be the real game-changer. With BCCI attending virtually, a green signal seems more likely than ever. But even with dates and venues falling into place, the India-Pakistan tie remains the biggest question mark.

Will politics win over cricket again? Or will fans finally get the blockbuster clash they have been waiting for? Time will tell but for now, the countdown to Asia Cup 2025 just got a lot more real.
