India’s cricket board, BCCI, has taken a tough stance ahead of the upcoming Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting set for July 24 in Dhaka. Citing growing safety and political issues in Bangladesh, the BCCI has warned it will not support any decisions made at the meeting unless the venue is changed.

The uncertainty surrounding this year’s Asia Cup T20 tournament could cost Pakistan a significant amount. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is at risk of losing around ₹35 crore if the tournament doesn’t go ahead as expected. In total, the PCB hopes to earn about ₹264 crore (PKR 8.8 billion) this year from the Asia Cup and its share from the International Cricket Council (ICC).

ICC And Asia Cup Earnings Crucial for PCB’s Finances

According to a trusted source quoted by PTI, the PCB has projected an income of around USD 25.9 million (about PKR 7.7 billion) from the ICC for this financial year. Another PKR 1.1 billion (approx. ₹35 crore) is expected from the Asia Cup. This income is vital for the smooth running of cricket operations in Pakistan.

A PCB official was quoted saying,

"The revenues from these two major sources (ICC and Asia Cup) is very important for the financial health of Pakistan cricket."

The fate of the Asia Cup is now tied to a key meeting of the ACC. However, the BCCI has clearly stated that it won’t attend or accept any outcomes if the meeting is held in Dhaka. This stand is backed by cricket boards from Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Oman, who have also raised concerns about Bangladesh as the venue.

While PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi skipped the recent ICC meeting in Singapore, the PCB’s CEO, Sumair Ahmed, did attend. However, his attempts to get support from other boards on attending the Dhaka meeting didn’t succeed.

Asia Cup Timing And Venue Still Unclear

The Asia Cup is supposed to be played in the T20 format this year, but so far, there’s no official schedule or confirmed location. Though many expect it might be held in September, nothing is confirmed.
