Despite the loss against India in their tournament opener, Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz is confident that his team will perform well in the upcoming fixtures of the ongoing Asia Cup 2022.

The Babar-led side had a disappointing start to their Asia Cup campaign as they lost their first group league match of the tournament in a thrilling finish against the arch-rivals India on Sunday.

One of the positives that emerged from Pakistan's defeat was the spell of Mohammad Nawaz. The left-arm spinner was his team's most successful bowler with 3 wickets to his name which includes the all-important wickets of India's star batters- Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

Team's morale is high: Nawaz

During an interaction with the media on the sidelines of the team’s training session at the ICC Academy Ground on Wednesday, the spin-bowling all-rounder asserted that the Men in Green will not go down after just one loss, and is confident of performing well in their upcoming Asia Cup fixtures.

“The morale of the team is high, we will try to perform well in the upcoming matches,” said Mohammad Nawaz on the sidelines at ICC Academy Ground.

The game between the two Asian giants went down to the last over, the onus was on Nawaz to defend just 7 runs in the last over and he failed as the Men in Blue won the game with 2 balls to spare.

On bowling the final over of the high-octane clash, Nawaz said:

“It is not easy for spinners to bowl the last over in T20s but I was confident in the match against India, The situation of the match became such that I had to bowl that last over,''

Nawaz provides an update on Naseem's injury

Nawaz also provided an update on the fitness status of tearaway Pakistan seamer Naseem Shah and insisted that the young speedster did not sustain an injury.

“Naseem Shah is not dealing with an injury, he had cramps,”

Pakistan will square off with Hong Kong in a must-win encounter on September 2 in a bid to secure a spot in the Super 4s of the Asia Cup 2022.
