'As a Coach, He is Absolutely Zero': Ex-Pakistan Cricketer Launches Scathing Attack on Rahul Dravid

Former Pakistan batter Basit Ali launched a blistering attack on team India, claiming that India had lost the ongoing World Test Championship final match at the toss itself when captain Rohit Sharma opted to bowl in overcast conditions.

India's decision to drop their top-ranked bowler, Ravichandran Ashwin, from the playing XI proved to be a major error. Adding insult to injury, they failed to capitalize on winning the toss and choosing to bowl, allowing Australia to pile up a massive total of 469 runs in the first innings.

India, once appeared to be in a strong position when they restricted Australia to 76/3, but Travis Head and Steve Smith's counter-attacking centuries quickly turned the tide in Australia’s favour. While Smith scored 121 runs, Head played a quickfire knock of 163 runs off 174 deliveries.

There's no denying that Australia has a firm grip on the game, being 296 runs ahead with six wickets in hand. Basit Ali, the renowned Pakistan cricketer, is of the opinion that only a miracle can save team India now. Here’s what he said on his YouTube channel:

"India lost the match the moment they chose to bowl worrying about the first two hours. And the kind of bowling that was on display was just like IPL. By lunch, the Indian bowlers appeared so happy as if they'd won the match.”

“All India can do now is hope to get them out cheaply and hope for a miracle in the fourth innings. During the 120 overs that India fielded, I could see only 2-3 players being fit - Rahane, Kohli and Jadeja. The rest looked tired.”

Basit Ali didn't shy away from criticizing the players, but he didn't stop there—he also launched a scathing attack on Indian head coach Rahul Dravid for his coaching tactics.

While expressing his admiration for Rahul Dravid as a player, the former Pakistan cricketer expressed discontent with Dravid's coaching, regardless of his achievements with India A and the senior men's team.

"I am a huge Rahul Dravid fan, have always been and will remain. He is a class player, a legend. But as a coach, he is absolutely zero. You prepared turning pitches on India. Just answer me this. When India travelled to Australia, were there similar wickets? They had bouncy pitches, right?”

Basit Ali went on to use harsh words for the Indian head coach, stating:

"God knows what he was thinking. Jab upar wala akal baant raha tha toh pata nahi kaha pahaado ke peeche chhupe hue the [Translation: God knows where he was when God was distributing brains].”

Currently, Australia holds the advantage in the game and with two days remaining, it will be fascinating to see how India will approach the monumental task of chasing down the ‘huge target’ at the Oval and finally put an end to their decade-long trophy drought.
