The International Cricket Council (ICC) have squashed all rumours of a possible relocation of the upcoming 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup. The apex body, along with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have dropped separate statements, revealing that the tournament will indeed be carried out in the West Indies and the US.

Several recent reports have indicated that the T20 World Cup might possibly be shifted to England, Ireland and Scotland owing to administrative uncertainty in the USA Cricket.

ICC refutes claims of shifting T20 World Cup 2024

The ECB have asserted that the T20 World Cup 2024 will not be shifted out of West Indies and US, despite the lack of administrative certainty in the latter of the two hosts. In an official statement, a spokesperson from the ECB said that since the tournament is an ICC event, the apex cricket body’s statement must be considered as finalised.

“There is absolutely no truth to reports that the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 will be moved from the West Indies and the USA. Since the event is organized by the ICC, their statement must be taken as binding and conclusive.”

The 2024 T20 World Cup is set to be the biggest ICC event, with 20 teams participating in the tournament. The teams will be divided into four groups of five each, with the top two sides of each group advancing to the Super 8 round.

As per ICC, venues within the West Indies and the US are already being considered, while some of the finalised ones are prepping themselves for the big event. A spokesperson from the ICC said:

“Venue inspections have recently been concluded in both host territories, and planning for the event in June 2024 is in full swing.”
