In the latest development, left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh is likely to make his debut in the fifth Test match vs England at The Oval. As per several reports, the fast bowler who got injured before the Manchester Test match has regained his full fitness and could make his red-ball debut in the series finale.

The Punjab pacer was set for his maiden Test stint in the Manchester Test, but he got injured and was ruled out of the contest. However, with Jasprit Bumrah likely to miss the Oval Test due to workload management, and Anshul Kamboj's form a worrying sign, India are hopeful that Arshdeep Singh could deliver the goods.

Ahead of his potential Test debut, we look at Arshdeep Singh's red-ball record.

The record is not the most impressive, as he averages 30.37 after playing 21 Tests. The left-arm seamer has 66 wickets to his name, but has blown hot and cold in first-class tournament of India. However, India want to add a left-arm angle to their side, and hence, Arshdeep is likely to get his place in the team.

Why India want Arshdeep in playing XI?

For years, India has been craving a top-notch left-arm seamer, and their search ended when Arshdeep burst onto the scene. His left-arm angle will provide a different variation to the Indian attack, and the wily seamer also can utilise the new ball by making it move both ways.

Arshdeep also has prior experience of playing in English County Championship, and he can take that into account when dealing with the English batters. He did well on his maiden County stint, as India fast-tracked him into the red-ball team for the England tour.

He will replace either Bumrah, or Anshul Kamboj, depending on the team combination, and Bumrah's workload.
