The BCCI, aiming to identify talented and versatile young players capable of swiftly adapting to the elite level, has invited 20 potential all-rounders to participate in a rigorous training camp at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

Arjun Tendulkar, the son of the renowned Sachin Tendulkar, who has experience playing First-Class cricket for Goa and made his debut in the previous edition of the IPL with the Mumbai Indians, has also been included in the list of players summoned for the camp.

The camp is scheduled to commence in August and will span nearly three weeks.

“There is an Emerging Asia Cup (U-23) also later this year and BCCI is looking at potential youngsters. The all-rounders camp is an idea of NCA’s head of cricket VVS Laxman to ensure that we develop a lot of multi-skilled players across formats,” a senior BCCI source told PTI.

While Arjun Tendulkar has only played three IPL games so far, his performances in those matches have been promising, and he has shown that he can hold his own at that level. The BCCI might see the camp as an opportunity to further assess Tendulkar's skills, provide him with valuable training, and potentially groom him for future opportunities in Indian cricket.

“Arjun already has a Ranji Trophy century. A left-arm pacer who bowls between early and mid 130 kmph and bats left-handed. He brings in variety,” the source said.

The senior national selection committee, currently led by Shiv Sunder Das in an interim capacity, has chosen the players for the camp based on their performance and potential. The committee has taken into consideration the players' past performances as well as their potential to excel at the elite level.

This selection process aims to identify talented individuals who have showcased promising skills and abilities in order to groom them further and potentially provide them with opportunities to represent the national team in the future.

Among the notable players selected for the camp are Chetan Sakariya, a left-arm seamer and hard-hitting lower-order batsman from Saurashtra. Sakariya has already represented India in 2021 and also plays for the Delhi Capitals in the IPL.

Another noteworthy inclusion is Abhishek Sharma, a left-handed batsman from Punjab who has impressed with his performances for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL. Sharma also contributes with his tight left-arm spin bowling.

In addition to Arjun Tendulkar, Mohit Redkar, an off-spinner all-rounder from Goa, has been called for the camp. Manav Suthar from Rajasthan has also made the list of selected players.

From Delhi, the two players chosen are fast bowler Harshit Rana and medium pacer Divij Mehra, both of whom possess batting skills in addition to their bowling abilities.
