'I Was Surprised, But...,' Devon Conway Revisits the Iconic CSK Win in IPL 2023

The Chennai Super Kings emerged victorious in the 2023 Indian Premier League after a thrilling final against the Gujarat Titans. Despite rain interruptions that forced the match to be rescheduled, CSK managed to defeat Hardik Pandya's team by five wickets. In the shortened 15-over game, CSK set a revised target and ultimately secured their fifth IPL title when Ravindra Jadeja hit the winning boundary on the third day of the match.

One of the highlights of the final was CSK opener Devon Conway's outstanding performance. Conway played a crucial role in the run-chase, scoring 47 runs off just 25 balls, including four fours and two sixes. His contributions were instrumental in CSK's victory, earning him the well-deserved "Player of the Match" award. In a recent interview with ESPNCricinfo, Conway expressed his emotions after receiving the prestigious accolade in the final.

Furthermore, Conway commended Sai Sudharsan, a batsman from the Gujarat Titans, for his exceptional performance, which had a significant impact on the team's achievements.

"Oh, yeah. For sure. I thought Sai Sudharsan played an unbelievable knock. Jaddu himself had an incredible game with bat and ball. Ambati Rayudu's cameo didn't seem like much but it was certainly game-changing. So yeah, I was surprised, but at the end of the day, I don't worry about winning or missing out on individual awards. Winning trophies together as a group is what I dream of," said Conway.

Conway also discussed an incident where he mistakenly referred to the IPL victory as the biggest triumph of his career, unintentionally overshadowing the significance of New Zealand's win in the World Test Championship (WTC) final. He acknowledged that some New Zealand fans criticized him for seemingly prioritizing the IPL success over the WTC final win.

"It was about 3.30 am in the morning. We were going through so many emotions, and I probably said it without realizing what I meant. Of course, winning the WTC final was unbelievable and truly a highlight, but certainly, this win was also very much up there with what I've achieved so far. A few [New Zealand] lads kept bantering with me for a few hours after that, but it was all good," he further added.
