David Miller For South Africa - (Source : @CricketSouthAfrica/X.com)
In a significant development, South Africa have dealt a heavy blow to their preparations for England T20Is as their star batter David Miller has been ruled out of the series with injury. Cricket Proteas took to the social media platform to announce the southpaw's exit from the squad.
Notably, Miller was all set to represent the Rainbow Nation for a three-match T20I series starting on Wednesday, September 10 at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. The post added that the southpaw injured his right hamstring while he represented Northern Superchargers in the recently concluded The Hundred.
David Miller Out With Hamstring Injury
At present, South Africa have not named any replacement for the injured batter, and, likely, they won't add more names to the squad. Talking about David Miller, the 36-year-old hasn't been playing a lot of cricket in the last few months.
Miller featured in just five games in the Hundred and also featured in IPL 2025 during March-June. Further, his final appearance for the Proteas was back in March 2025 when he featured in the Champions Trophy.
It was a great tournament for Miller as he smashed a century in the semi-finals, but suffered another heartbreak as his team ended up on the losing end.
Albie Morkel Joins South Africa Squad
Cricket South Africa made another major announcement and stated that former Proteas batter Albie Morkel will join the coaching staff as their bowling consultant.
Talking about Albie Morkel, the 44-year-old featured for South Africa from 2004 to 2015. Further, Morkel will help the Proteas' bowlers against England. The Rainbow Nation recently registered a 2-1 win in the ODI series against England and will now shift its focus to T20I cricket, which will also serve as a practice ground for T20 World Cup 2026.
