India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has been struggling in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024. His form has been a concern, and during the third Test at Gabba, he managed to score just 9 runs off 12 balls before being dismissed by Australian skipper Pat Cummins.

Pant’s connection with Gabba is iconic due to his heroic innings in the 2020-21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where he played a historic knock to help India clinch a remarkable win. However, this time around, his return to the same venue turned disappointing, as Cummins dismissed him for the third time in the series.

India’s innings started on a disastrous note, with Mitchell Starc taking out Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill early. Virat Kohli also departed quickly, courtesy of Josh Hazlewood. After a rain delay, Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul attempted to steady the innings. However, Cummins struck immediately after play resumed, dismissing Pant with a sharp delivery that edged to keeper Alex Carey.

India’s batting lineup has struggled throughout the series, with big names like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli failing to deliver. Pant’s performances have also been below par, with scores of 37, 1, 21, 28, and 9 in the series so far.

Frustrated fans took to social media to troll Rishabh Pant for his underwhelming performance. One user wrote, “Rishabh Pant – Most overrated player in International cricket and IPL.”

India Vs Australia 3rd Test: Match Recap

Talking about the match, Indian captain Rohit Sharma chose to bowl first after winning the toss. Rain disrupted much of Day 1, but on Day 2, India managed to pick a couple of early wickets. However, Australia’s Travis Head and Steve Smith turned the game around with sensational centuries, propelling their team to a formidable total of 445 runs.

In response, India were found reeling at 27 for 3 after Mitchell Starc removed Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill and Josh Hazelwood removed Virat Kohli for 3 runs.
