Amol Mazumdar and Tushar Arothe have emerged as top candidates to become the next head coach of the Indian Women’s team. The two were shortlisted for the position, and their further interviews are scheduled to be conducted on June 30.

Since Ramesh Powar’s exit from the role, the Indian women’s team coaching staff has been commanded by team’s batting coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar on an interim basis.

BCCI’s advisory committee to pick women’s coach on June 30

Domestic veterans Amol Mazumdar and Tushar Arothe have both had prior coaching experiences with domestic and international teams. While Mazumdar was designated as the batting coach of Rajasthan Royals in IPL for three successive seasons, he also served the Netherlands and South African national teams in the same capacity.

Meanwhile, Arothe was appointed as India women’s head coach in 2013, i.e., after working with the Chhattisgarh team in domestic cricket.

Apart from the two candidates, English player and former Durham coach Jon Lewis had also submitted his application for the top profile.

A source close to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently confirmed that the final interviews will be conducted on June 30 in Mumbai. The Indian board had appointed a Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) to conduct the interviews, and the committee itself includes former cricketers Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjpe and Sulakshana Naik.

Previously, former Indian spinner Ramesh Powar served as the head coach of the women’s team before he was axed by the BCCI in December 2022. The ‘Women in Blue’ team, under Harmanpreet Kaur’s leadership, has since been commanded by team’s batting coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar.

Kanitkar, who played two Tests and 34 ODIs for India, also guided Harmanpreet Kaur and co. at the 2023 T20 World Cup in South Africa earlier this year.
