The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) unveiled India’s 15-player squad for the forthcoming T20 World Cup 2024 on April 30.

Much to everyone’s surprise, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) cult hero and India’s designated finisher Rinku Singh did not find a spot in the primary eleven as he was relegated to the travelling reserves instead.

The move garnered widespread criticism, with several fans and cricket experts questioning the omission of the 26-year-old.

Former cricketer Ambati Rayudu, who was similarly discarded from India’s 2019 World Cup squad, has now expressed his disapproval over Rinku’s T20 World Cup 2024 snub on X (formerly Twitter).

Ambati Rayudu questions Rinku Singh’s omission

A day after India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad reveal, former Team India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) cricketer Ambati Rayudu took to X (formerly Twitter) and expressed his displeasure over the omission of Rinku Singh.

Rayudu, who was similarly snubbed from India’s 2019 World Cup, acknowledged Rinku’s contribution for the Indian team in T20Is in the past two years.

He claimed that the cricketer has been consistently playing match-defining knocks for Team India with higher strike-rates despite coming into bat in the difficult overs.

As of now, Rinku Singh is playing for the Kolkata franchise in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) season. The 26-year-old has so far tallied just 123 runs from eight innings at a below par average of 20.50.

However, the dashing left-hander has made 15 T20I appearances for India in the lead-up to the T20 World Cup 2024, having made his debut with a game against Ireland last August. Holding a splendid average of 89 in international T20s, Rinku Singh has also maintained a staggering strike-rate of over 176.
