Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) limped their way past Mumbai Indians for a tense four-wicket win at Lucknow in match number 48 of the IPL 2024 season. Marcus Stoinis top-scored in LSG’s run-chase with a scintillating 45-ball 62 while Nicholas Pooran listed a composed 14* to score the winning runs.

After the match, LSG skipper KL Rahul hailed the collective experience of his two overseas batters, and gave an update on his injured fast bowler Mayank Yadav.

LSG reached an authoritative 115-3 in 14.4 overs in a run-chase of 145 before the dismissal of well-set Marcus Stoinis triggered a nervy phase towards the closing stages of the game.

Winning captain KL Rahul admitted that the run-chase tensed towards the end but praised Nicholas Pooran and Krunal Pandya for maintaining composure amidst tumbling wickets. He also hailed his bowlers for keeping Mumbai Indians down to 144 on a dry wicket. While speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, the cricketer said:

“A little bit, I won't lie. But we had batsmen in the middle. Experienced batters like Pooran and Krunal were in the middle and we were confident. The wicket was dry. But if they had put 160-170, it would have been competitive. But we bowled really well. Our bowlers kept picking regular wickets and made the job easier for the batters.”

KL Rahul also gave an update on injured paceman Mayank Yadav, who had to walk out of the field after bowling just 3.1 overs. The LSG skipper further praised the speedster for his sheer pace and for his appetite to learn. He added:

“I haven't spoken with him (Mayank Yadav). After picking the wicket, he held the same area. Not a side strain but he said 'thoda dukh raha hai' (it hurts a little bit). So, I said go out and rest because we don't want to take the risk. In this game, he showed that he has more skills than only bowling 150+. The more he plays, he will learn. He will learn what to bowl in different situations. Right now, it's a free hand for him to bowl and as he plays enough matches, he will learn.”

With LSG’s four-wicket win over Mumbai Indians, they have now moved up to the number three position on the IPL 2024 points table.

KL Rahul will now be seen leading his team for another home game, considering they are slated to face a rampaging Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) unit in match number 54 of the tournament. The much-awaited contest will be staged on May 5.
