In a significant development, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has finally received a strong response for the expansion of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). As per PCB, 12 parties have submitted bids to purchase two new franchises for the tournament’s 2026 season.

It is important to note that the PCB had earlier decided to increase the number of teams in the PSL from six to eight, marking the league’s first major expansion in seven years.

The board initially set December 15 as the bid deadline, later extending it to December 22 and then to December 24 to allow more interested parties to participate.

PSL gets 12 bids for 2 new teams ahead of 2026 season

On Wednesday, Geo Super reported that the PCB had confirmed the bidding process had concluded, with 12 bids received from investors across five continents. The bidders belong to five continents, including the United States, Australia, Canada, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Pakistan.

In a statement, the PCB described the response as 'exceptional and encouraging,' stating that the interest reflects the commercial strength and popularity of the Pakistan Super League.

"The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced an exceptional and encouraging response to the tender issued for the sale of two new franchises of the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL). Within the stipulated deadline, 12 parties have formally submitted their bids. These bidders belong to five continents, including the United States, Australia, Canada, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Pakistan, which clearly reflects the PSL’s growing global popularity and commercial appeal," the cricket board said in a statement.

The PCB had set a base price of USD 4 million for each of the two new teams. While some reports suggested that a few investors were cautious about the high base price.

Qualified bidders to be shortlisted on December 27

According to the same report, the PCB further announced that the results of the first phase of the bidding process will be revealed on December 27. This phase will determine which bidders are technically qualified to move forward.

The shortlisted bidders will then take part in an open auction scheduled for January 8 at the Islamabad Convention Centre, where the final owners of the two new franchises will be decided.

The PSL will feature eight franchises from its 11th edition onwards. The addition of two new teams is expected to strengthen the league further and increase its reach, both locally and internationally.
