Afghanistan team, from playing its first-ever ODI World Cup in 2015 to directly qualifying for the World Cup 2023 and winning four games as well, Jonathan Trott, the former English player has played a huge role in the development of the Afghanistan team under his tenure as the head coach.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board took X to announce the extension of their head coach, Jonathan Trott's extension for one more year. This decision has come to terms after Trott's successful journey of 18 months with the team. He was appointed as the head coach in July 2022 and under him, the team went on to win their first game in the Asia Cup 2022.

The Afghans also won a T20I series over the Pakistan team, and an ODI series against the Bangladesh team by becoming the first team in the last five years to beat them at their home in the 50-over format.

Trott was one of the toughest players produced by England and played over 50 Test matches, scoring over 3800 runs in the longest format. He also featured in 68 ODIs and scored 2838 runs with a staggering average of 51.25.

The growth Afghanistan cricket has seen over the last 18 months has been nothing short of exemplary and Trott must be given credit for his contributions in taking Afghanistan cricket to another level. With a successful World Cup campaign, the Afghans will gain huge confidence and try to make a difference on the biggest stage.

Trott is currently with the team in UAE for the three-match T20I series against the hosts and will be touring India in a few days for another T20I series, as they begin their preparations for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.
