On January 18th 2009, a left-handed top-order batter from New South Wales, David Warner, wore the Australian colours for the first time in ODI cricket and now after 15 years of playing the format, he bids farewell to the 50-over format as well. 

Although, he has clarified his availability for the Champions Trophy 2025 if the team needs him. 

Over the course of 15 years in the ODI format, David Warner has been a force to reckon with for the Aussies. In 161 ODI games, the Australian southpaw has amassed 6932 runs with a steady average of 45.30. As he was about to play his last Test match on the 3rd of January, 20224, Warner announced that he would no longer participate in the ODI format as well.

Back in January 2017, when Australia hosted a multi-format tour for the Pakistan team, the Aussies gave a hard time to the Men in Gean in each of the formats and David Warner was the main character in the Aussies line-up aggregating 367 runs in a five-match ODI series, helping Australia win the series by 4-1. 

In the fifth ODI of the series, which was nothing but a dead rubber, as the Aussies already sealed the series by winning three of the first four ODIs. While batting first, the southpaw, David Warner seemed unstoppable and went on to score 179 runs off just 128 deliveries with the help of 19 boundaries and five maximums, registering his highest score in the ODI format.

The hundred that comes in the World Cup, which is also known as the mother of all events, can be a player's one of top moments and the knock of David Warner against Afghanistan in the World Cup 2015, turned out to be a major highlight of his ODI career, as this was his first-ever World Cup century and that too a big one. 

While batting first on the wicket of Perth, David Warner took the Afghan bowlers from the start of the innings and went on to score 178 runs off just 133 deliveries. This innings of Warner was nothing short of the fireworks, as he smashed 19 boundaries and five aerial shots. His second-best score of the ODIs, helped the Aussies post a mammoth total of 417 runs and win the game by a huge margin of 275 runs.

In the year 2016, South Africa hosted a five-match ODI series for the Aussies and gave them a horrible time on the South African pitches, clinching the series by 5-0. David Warner, the left-handed opener was the lone warrior from the Australian team, as he went on to smash almost 400 runs in the five-match series, including one daddy hundred in the fifth ODI. 

The South African team posted a total of 327 runs in their 50 overs and the Aussies had to chase the score to save themselves from getting whitewashed. The Aussies lost three wickets inside 80 runs and David Warner was holding one end, smacking the bowlers. The mighty opener went on to score 173 runs off just 136 deliveries, with the help of 24 boundaries. He almost took Aussies over the line before he became the ninth wicket and fell 40 runs short.

In the World Cup 2019, David Warner went on to smash three more hundreds and rose in the ranks of smashing most World Cup centuries. Coming into the game against Bangladesh, Warner already scored a century in the game against Pakistan. He was high on confidence as the Aussies were going great in the tournament. 

While batting first against the Bangladesh team with the motive of posting a high score, David Warner stepped into the middle and went on to take on the bowlers. He scored 166 runs off 147 deliveries, which includes 14 boundaries and five sixes, helping his team post a total of 381 runs and seal a victory by 48 runs.

The long Commonwealth Bank Series 2012 was about to conclude when the Aussies were about to face Sri Lanka in the first game of the Best of Three finals, after the elimination of India. Australia and Sri Lanka, both were playing a great brand of cricket and made their way into the best of three finals. 

Both teams knew the importance of winning the first game and Aussies were right upfront as they chose to bat first in Brisbane. David Warner became the hero of the first final and also scored his first-ever ODI hundred, converting it into a huge one as well, scoring 163 off 157 deliveries. The Australian team with the help of Warner's daddy hundred posted 321 runs on the board and clinched victory in the first game by 15 runs.
