The drama surrounding the Asia Cup 2025 trophy is increasing with every passing day, with the winning team, India, is yet to receive the silverware even after defeating Pakistan in the final held in Dubai on September 28, 2025.
According to reports from Dainik Jagran journalist Abhishek Tripathi, the trophy and players' medals are currently with Mohsin Naqvi, the President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The silverware is allegedly still at the Dubai hotel where Naqvi is staying.
India refuses to accept trophy from Naqvi
The Asia Cup trophy controversy began after India defeated Pakistan in a thrilling final. The post-match presentation ceremony was delayed by nearly an hour as India team reportedly refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi.
Reports reveal that Suryakumar Yadav and co. did not want to receive the trophy from a political figure in the wake of disturbed relations between the two countries. This step by India led to an awkward situation, forcing Naqvi to leave the venue without handing over the trophy.
However, it is important to note that as he was leaving the stadium, he took the trophy and medals along with him.
According to the same report by Abhishek Tripathi, the BCCI, upset with the incident and Naqvi's behaviour, has initiated discussions with other Asian cricket boards to resolve the issue. The Indian board has reportedly asked Naqvi to return the trophy and medals directly to the ACC office in Dubai, stating that the silverware is 'not his personal property.'
The BCCI is expected to raise the matter formally during the upcoming ICC conference in November.
Naqvi demands another formal ceremony
According to reports, sources close to the ACC have revealed that Naqvi is ready to hand over the trophy, demanding a formal ceremony to hand over the trophy, and that he must personally present it to the Indian team.
