A hero's welcome! Tilak Varma receives grand reception in Hyderabad after Asia Cup exploits

India's Asia Cup hero Tilak Varma received a grand welcome at his home city in Hyderabad. To the unversed, Tilak played an unbelievable knock against Pakistan in the tense finale, helping India chase down 147 by five wickets in Dubai.

Fans come out in numbers to support Tilak Varma

The Asia Cup 2025 champions, India, were at a precarious stage in the final of the Asia Cup 2025 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai, where, while chasing 147, they lost their first three wickets for just 20 runs on the board.

However, in came left-handed batter Tilak Varma, who scored 69* off 53 deliveries with three boundaries and four maximums, striking runs at a strike rate of 130.19, taking India to victory in a classic finish with just two deliveries and five wickets to spare as he remained unbeaten until the end.

Thanks to his heroics, India earned the bragging rights and their ninth Asia Cup title in Dubai, which was later marred with plenty of controversies during the presentation ceremony.

One of the controversies was that India were not given the trophy during the presentation, which they refused to accept from the PCB chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, and they returned home without it.

Later, the Indian cricket team members and support staff returned to India, where some of the members will be preparing hard for the upcoming Test series against West Indies, scheduled to begin on October 2nd in Ahmedabad, while the non-Test members returned to their hometowns.

Varma, who was awarded player of the match for the finale, flew back to his home in Hyderabad, where fans and media welcomed him with a rousing reception in his city.

Varma gets cheered by fans at the airport

Entering from the airport, Varma was greeted with applause and cheers by the fans, who had gathered in large numbers at the Hyderabad airport to welcome the Indian national hero.

There was a grand celebration at the airport as Varma, getting out of his car's sunroof, was thanking his fans for coming to the airport in numbers to receive him.

Thanks to Varma's heroics, India were saved from embarrassment, as he played a solid knock, taking India to victory, which looked challenging at one stage of the game.
