Pakistan spinner Abrar Ahmed capped a remarkable ODI debut for himself by bagging four wickets against Zimbabwe at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo. Sharing the new ball with Aamer Jamal, the leg-spinner picked up the prized-scalp of Joylord Gumbie before returning to mop up the Zimbabwean tail at 145 in just 32.3 overs.

Seizing figures of 4-33 in his first ODI appearance for Pakistan, Ahmed has now joined an elite bowling list, featuring the likes of former cricketers Abdul Qadir and Zakir Khan.

Abrar Ahmed achieves third best debut figures

Abrar Ahmed picked up a match-winning four-wicket haul against Zimbabwe to record one of the best bowling figures by any Pakistani bowler on ODI debut. In retrospect, the 26-year-old became only the fourth Pakistani bowler to pick up four or more wickets in his first ODI appearance, and is currently holding the third-best figures by any ‘Men in Green’ ODI debutant in history.

Ahmed sent down eight overs against Zimbabwe, and picked up four wickets at an expense of just 33 runs. Here is a list of four best bowling figures recorded by Pakistani debutants in ODIs.

Apart from Abrar Ahmed, senior man Agha Salman also chipped in with three middle-order Zimbabwean wickets to skittle out the hosts for just 145 after captain Craig Ervine won the toss and opted to bat first.

Chasing just 146 for a win, young Pakistani opener Saim Ayub still found time to smear an unbeaten 113 from just 62 deliveries. The dashing left-hander crashed 17 boundaries and three sixes to notch up his maiden ODI century, and the third fastest by any Pakistani batter in 50-overs international history.

With series squared at 1-1, Zimbabwe and the visiting Pakistanis will now face each other in the decider on November 28 at the same Bulawayo venue.
